if you’re going to try, go all the
way.
otherwise, don’t even start.

if you’re going to try, go all the
way. this could mean losing girlfriends,
wives, relatives, jobs and
maybe your mind.

go all the way.
it could mean not eating for 3 or
4 days.
it could mean freezing on a
park bench.
it could mean jail,
it could mean derision,
mockery,
isolation.
isolation is the gift,
all the others are a test of your
endurance, of
how much you really want to
do it.
and you’ll do it
despite rejection and the
worst odds
and it will be better than
anything else
you can imagine.

if you’re going to try,
go all the way.
there is no other feeling like
that.
you will be alone with the
gods
and the nights will flame with
fire.

do it, do it, do it.
do it.

all the way
all the way.
you will ride life straight to
perfect laughter,
it’s the only good fight
there is.

Fashion Film

The following video is a fashion film created by Ruth Hogben for Gareth Pugh. It showcases the designer’s Autumn/Winter 2009 collection and seems to be a pioneer effort in the uprising field of Fashion Filmmaking which was born and bloomed inside SHOWstudio’s creative fever. I am pretty sure I should dedicate a whole new post to SHOWstudio -as it is one of the most gorgeous online fashion and art projects I’ve ever come across- and Nick Knight, its director and most visionary photographers of our days.

Along with this video, I think it is interesting to also check out this panel discussion on fashion and the moving image, curated and held by some of the most talented women of this growing genre.

These are some of the photographs I took this summer. They capture friends, my brother, islands and originally blue seas of Greece. They bring to my mind what John Cage had borrowed from Kant and said once: “There are two things that don’t have to mean anything. One is music and the other is laughter; don’t have to mean anything, that is, in order to give us very deep pleasure. You know that, don’t you?”

drink a toast to never

[If you close the door
The night could last forever
Leave the wine-glass out
And drink a toast to never

Oh, someday I know
Someone will look into my eyes
And say hello
You’re my very special one]

I am posting the work of Marion Dubier Clark to say goodbye to the beautiful sea breeze of this and every summer and to also welcome with a halo the always promising leaf falling of this and every autumn.

These days I am thinking of how time is passing, if it is fast or slow, if it is enough or not, if we needed more or maybe not. If every other next day is one day more or one day less. What is the feeling of time of a being that lives on earth only for some days and then dies. Does life seem long, eternal? What is the perception of an old man and what is the perception of a young boy. Why can’t I remember myself when I was a baby- I was alive then though, I know. How time stops when you make love, when you are underwater, when you sleep, when you are in emerging pain, when you concentrate, when it is summer. How now remains now and forever in all photographs ever taken, in all films ever created. How time is then defeated by this photokinetic immortality and how speed of time, of change, of progress has no particular meaning in front of every existence standing up at chance, by means of willingness and instict at this sharing moment.
